Ramblings & TMI

Yesterday I was planning on going to Body Pump after work, pulling a double workout.  Unfortunately, it was full and if you weren’t on the list, you couldn’t get a pass, and you couldn’t participate.  Fortunately, the gym is conveniently located at the mall.  So because I couldn’t work out, I went and dropped some mad buck$$$ at Nordstrom.  I unremorsefully purchased a new wallet, new purse, new iPhone case, and tried on some new running shoes.  I’ve been wanting to check out Brooks Pureflow’s, but the size 8 was almost too tight and the size 8.5 were just too big.  Plus, when I looked down, I just felt like I had kangaroo feet.  I’m not dissing anyone out there with Brooks.  I liked yours so I thought I would like them for me.  I think I’ll probably just been sticking with Nikes.

Since my last race I’ve been wanting to buy some new shoes.  Completing and training for a new race is always a good excuse to buy new shoes.  However, I’ve been wanting to get properly fitted at Road Runner Sports, but I just haven’t had the time.  So I’ve been wearing an old pair of Nike Lunar Eclipse (like the one’s I re-bought and returned) because I figured they’re in ok shape since I never ran a race in them.  However, Saturday, towards the end of my 8 mile run, I started to feel a burn on the inner arch of my right foot.  Low and behold, a little blister, probably the size of my pinky-tip.  Sunday I just decided to run (10 miles) right on it, assuming it would just pop.  This didn’t happen, and it just got a little bit bigger.  Now, after running on it 6 miles yesterday and 4 miles this morning, IT IS HUGE.

It takes 3 bandaids to cover it up.  I am literally walking on the side of my foot.  Pretty soon I’m going to need a crutch!  I feel like it’s slowly going to keep growing and take over my entire body.  I tried sticking it with a needle, but it’s just a flaccid mass (cute, huh?).  SPOILER: cover your eyes.

Post work I ran 3 more miles that were the most difficult.  I was over working my left leg, while supinating my right foot.  Overall, I’ve just been trying to increase my mileage this week, but it has just come to bite me in the butt.  Or maybe the loss of my right foot this is just a strong message: I NEED NEW SHOES 😉

With my computer dying, I tried to do my best to pair each song to what mile I might be on – assuming an 8 minute per mile pace.  I started with the slower songs first and worked my way up, to ensure that I don’t start off too fast.  I also made sure I had a good song around mile 6 for the hill, and enjoyable music for the finish.

Body Love Apparel Giveaway!

I am so excited to announce my first giveaway!

I recently connected with Amanda of Body Love Apparel after coming across her Etsy shop.  I loved her inspirational messages and quotes.  Not to mention her extremely comfortable choice of fabric!  Who doesn’t love Alternative Apparel or burnout tanks? Amanda has always had a passion for fitness, running, and life in general.  She says  “I believe we should see the best in people and help those around us to bring out the best in themselves.” Well, her tanks and tops help to do just that.  If you check out her shop (which you should!) you’ll notice that her clothes will always have a positive, motivating message, and are also super cute!

To make sure you feel good, and to motivate others to feel good, we have partnered up to offer one lucky winner the chance to win a “Go The Distance” tank!

Regardless of all those “pins” and tips on “how to wake up early and exercise,” it ultimately comes down to self-motivation and determination.  Only if you reaaally want to work out will you work out.  There’s more than one good reason to stay in bed = SLEEP.

Here are some things I find helpful:

LW5A28S_8717_3

1. Set out your clothes.  Or wear some of them to bed (something I don’t do too often).  For example, I have on a pair of Lululemon runder under’s that I’ve always wanted to sleep in– they’re that comfortable.  They feel like tight sweatpants (not in a disgusting way, almost like a second skin).  Now, I have a reason to wear them to bed–I’m prepping for my workout!

2. Set several alarms.  If waking up and working out is something important to you, drive yourself insane with the amount of alarms you set.  This will either a) cause you to wake up because of the constant sirens, or b) cause you to wake up because you wanted to sleep in but had to turn on your brain to figure out how to turn off all of the alarms before they sound off.

3.  Get out the door while you’re still too tired to realize what you’re doing.  Then run.  Just make sure you’re conscientious of cars and traffic.

4. Have a great playlist.  Either an upbeat (pop/hip-hop), mellow and relaxing (indie/acoustic), or top-hits (Bruno Mars, P!NK, Rihanna, etc).

5. OR…convince yourself you need to have the right gear for morning running and buy some reflective shoes (i.e. Nike Shield), even though it might not ever be that dark when you run in the AM.  Go on a morning running clothes shopping spree! 😛

When you’re first starting out with early morning runs, make sure you choose a tangible distance. Start with 1, 2 or 3 miles.  Something that won’t completely throw you off as you ease into this new routine.

Do you like AM or PM workouts?  How do you motivate yourself to get going?
